air fryer frozen potato wedges recipe

We love our air fryer because it makes the perfect Air Fryer Toast, homemade Air Fryer Potato Wedges, and Air Fryer Hard-boiled Eggs, just to mention a few. These potato wedges from frozen are also one of our favorite things to make using your air fryer!

Here are a few reasons why you will love this recipe:

  • crispy - makes crispy and delicious wedges each time!
  • easy - it is an easy and convenient way to make potato wedge.
  • quick and family-friendly - plus, you only need 12 minutes from start to finish. Thinking that the oven can do it as well? Then just think about how much less energy you will need to heat your air fryer, compared to your oven!

ingredients

This is a summary of the ingredients you will need to make air fryer frozen potato wedges, as well as possible options for substitution, if any. The full ingredient measurements have been provided in the recipe card below.

Air fryer frozen potato wedges ingredients
  • frozen seasoned potato wedges - I like to use McCain potato wedges but feel free to use your favorite brands!
  • Frozen wedges normally come seasoned so you do not need to add any more seasoning. Should you use plain frozen potatoes, then add a teaspoon of salt or chip spice, as well as 1-2 tablespoons of cooking oil when air frying (optional).

how to make air fryer frozen potato wedges

This is a summary of how to make air fried potato wedges. Please see the detailed recipe and storage instructions in the recipe card below.

  1. Place the frozen potato wedges inside your air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd, cook in batches if necessary.
  2. Air fry, making sure to shake your basket or flip the wedges mid-cooking.
  3. Depending on whether the frozen potato wedges you are using are seasoned or not, season with salt, pepper, or your prefered seasonings.
  4. Air fry for the remaining time.
  5. Serve.

tips from the cook

  • Do not overcrowd the potatoes in the basket, and make sure to flip them or shake your basket halfway through the cooking time.
  • The instructions in the recipe card are for fully frozen potato wedges cooked in an air fryer that was not preheated. Shorten the cooking time by 1-2 minutes if using a preheated air fryer.
  • This recipe was made using the Ninja Foodi Air Fryer and Multi-cooker. Different air fryers cook differently so it is recommended that you always check on your food mid-cooking and adjust the time accordingly.

serving suggestions

When it comes to serving air fryer frozen wedges, the list of combinations is endless. My favorites include:-

  • vegetables - try serving them with vegetables such as this hearty marinara sauce, asparagus, air fryer green beans, or a salad, such as this tasty German celeriac salad (Selleriesalat).
  • burgers - these air fryer frozen hamburgers or air fryer frozen turkey burgers recipes are a good start.
  • chicken wings cooked in all sorts of ways! I love mine served with some air fried chicken wings!
  • steaks and un-breaded pork chops.
  • and not to forget, your favorite dipping sauces, such as ketchup, barbecue sauce, mayo or some no-mayo honey mustard sauce!

storing and reheating instructions

Allow the cooked potato wedges to cool, then transfer them to a suitable airtight container. They will keep in the fridge for 3-5 days.

And just like with air fryer frozen chips (French fries for those of you who choose to call them that, lol), you can freeze and reheat the cooked wedges. I, however, do not recommend it as cooked wedges tend to turn mushy and grainy upon thawing. Also bear in mind the platinum rule which is, you do not want to refreeze previously frozen food, without cooking it first.

Now that we have that out of the way, here is how to go about reheating the wedges:-

  1. Place the wedges inside your air fryer.
  2. Spray them with a little bit of oil then shake your basket to combine.
  3. Set the temperature of your air fryer to 356°F/ 180°C.
  4. Air fry for 5-7 minutes or until properly warmed through, increasing the time in 2-minute increments if necessary, until warmed through.
  5. Once warm, serve immediately.

how long to cook frozen potato wedges in the air fryer

As a general rule, frozen potato wedges will require the following time and temperature to cook:-

  • Air fry at 200°C for 10-15 minutes. Shake the basket or flip the potato wedges every 5 minutes to redistribute the wedges and ensure an even cooking.
  • Air fry at 180°C for 15-20 minutes. Shake the basket or flip the potato wedges every 5 minutes to redistribute the wedges and ensure an even cooking.

Use this as a guideline as several factors could affect the cooking time:-

  1. thickness: thicker frozen potato wedges will take longer to cook than thinner ones.
  2. quantity: a full air fryer may require more cooking time than one that's only partially filled, due to reduced air circulation.
  3. air fryer models: different air fryers can have different power levels and may cook foods at slightly different rates.
  4. desired crispiness: how crispy you prefer your wedges will influence the cooking time.
  5. frequency of shaking or turning: the frequency of shaking or turning can affect cooking time and evenness.
  6. pre-heating: pre-heating cuts the cooking time by about 5 minutes.
  7. air fryer model: different air fryers have different power levels and therefore, cook differently.
