The salty flavor of the halloumi pairs perfectly with the sweetness from the honey and the slightly tangy kick of lemon, making this air fryer halloumi recipe irresistibly delicious. Best of all, using the air fryer means no greasy splatters, and no smoky kitchen!
ingredient notes
- halloumi cheese - Choose good-quality halloumi for the best texture and flavor.
- juice of half a lemon.
- olive oil.
- thyme - Fresh or dried thyme complements halloumi beautifully, but feel free to use rosemary, oregano, or your favorite herbs instead!
how to make it
Start by preheating your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). A hot air fryer ensures your halloumi gets perfectly crisp and golden.
Pat the block of halloumi dry with a clean kitchen towel to remove excess moisture - this helps achieve a better crust.
Then, we slice it evenly into about ¼-inch to ½-inch (0.5– 1 cm) thick pieces.
Next, combine olive oil, honey, lemon juice, and thyme in a bowl. Carefully coat each halloumi slice with this flavorful marinade. If you have the time, let the slices marinate for at least 30 minutes; this helps enhance the flavors.
Arrange the halloumi slices in your air fryer basket, making sure they're in a single layer without overlapping.
Air fry for 7-8 minutes, or until golden and nicely crisped. You don't have to flip halfway through - then give them a quick flip and air fry for another 1-2 minutes, or until crispy to your liking.
Once cooked, transfer the halloumi slices to a serving plate. Drizzle with any leftover honey-lemon mixture. You want to serve your halloumi immediately while it's still warm, as it tends to turn hard when it cools.
Like our fried goat cheese, you can serve it as a snack, or appetizer, add it to salads and bowls for a healthy meal!
storing leftover halloumi
Keep your leftover halloumi in an airtight container for 5-6 days. Reheat it by frying it a pan for 1-2 minutes on each side.
