This pan-fried goat cheese (no breading!) is cooked with honey and drizzled with honey for the perfect flavor combination, Serve it with bread, add it to salads, and so much more!

This fried goat cheese and herbs is a simple and tasty appetizer or snack. Delicious goat cheese is topped with honey and herbs, then pan-fried, all without breading.

The best part? It only requires four ingredients and less than 5 minutes to make!

I know that eating goat cheese can sometimes be a tricky thing. But have you tried it fried, with a honey glaze?

It is the perfect balance of savory and sweet, plus, the goat cheese gets crispy outside, while staying creamy inside.

And although it sounds very decadent and complicated, it really isnt.

ingredients notes

  • chilled goat cheese - ensure the goat cheese is coming straight out of the refrigerator. Chilling the cheese in the refrigerator (or freezer) for 10-15 minutes before frying helps it hold it's shape during frying.
  • honey - you can also use brown sugar or maple syrup.
  • thyme.
  • rosemary.

what type of goat cheese to use

The best goat cheese for frying is firm, aged goat cheese rather than soft, fresh varieties. A firmer cheese holds its shape better during cooking and is less likely to melt or fall apart.

Look for varieties labeled as aged or semi-hard, such as Bûcheron or Tomme de Chèvre, as they have a more stable texture and fry beautifully.

Whether you go for circular, triangular, or log-style goat cheese, the shape doesn’t really matter. What’s important is cutting it into even sizes so it cooks evenly.

how to easily slice goat cheese

One of the best ways to get even slices is to hold a piece of unflavored dental floss or cheese wire taut and slide this through the cheese.

You can also chill the cheese first, before slicing. This firms it up, making it easy to slice.

I like to dip the knife in hot water before slicing the cheese. The heat from the water warms the blade, allowing it to glide through the cheese more smoothly without sticking.

So you basically dip the knife in hot water, wipe it dry, and repeat as needed for clean cuts.

how to make

  1. Start by slicing your cheese. For even frying, ensure the cheese slices are of uniform thickness (about ½ inch, approximately 1.25cm).
  2. Heat a non-stick skillet or pan over medium heat. I cant stress this enough; high heat will scorch the honey and cheese.
  3. Without adding oil, place the goat cheese slices in the skillet and fry the bottom side for 30 seconds to a minutes, or until golden brown.
  4. While the first side cooks, drizzle honey over the top and top with fresh thyme and rosemary.
  5. To prevent breaking, I recommend gently flipping the cheese.
  6. Cook the honey-glazed side for another 30 seconds -1 minute, or until caramelized.
  7. Once cooked, transfer the goat cheese to a plate, drizzle with more honey if desired, garnish with fresh thyme and rosemary, and serve immediately.

serving suggestions

Fried goat cheese is best eaten warm, after frying.

We like to serve ours as is, drizzled with some more honey but you can enjoy it in the following ways:-

  • On Salads: Add it to a fresh green salad with arugula, spinach, or mixed greens, paired with a light vinaigrette.
  • With Fresh Fruit: Pair with fruits such as figs, sliced pears, or apples.
  • With Nuts and Dried Fruit: Serve alongside roasted nuts and dried cranberries, apricots or your favorite dried fruits and nuts.
  • On a Cheese Board: Include it as part of a cheese board.
  • With Balsamic Glaze: Drizzle with balsamic reduction for a tangy and elegant finish.

storage tip

Fried goat cheese is best enjoyed fresh, but if needed, you can refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in a pan over low heat or in the air fryer for a few minutes until warmed through.

Kate's tip

Because our goat cheese slices are without breading and honey burns quickly, you'll need to work fast when frying the honey-glazed side.

My cheese slices required about a minutes to caramelize; I would say 1-2 minutes is the sweet spot - though this will depend on your stove’s heat.
