why you will love this recipe

    • you get to make delicious omelettes every time!
    • easy and quick - once you have programmed your air fryer and put your eggs inside, you do not have to babysit or watch the pan. The air fryer basically does all the cooking.
    • family-friendly- this air fryer bacon omelette is absolutely family-friendly; even the picky eaters love this!

    ingredients

Get ready and gather the following ingredients:-

An overhead picture of the ingredients needed to make an omelette using the air fryer.
    • eggs - straight out of the refrigerator.
    • butter (not pictured) - use margarine as a dairy-free option.
    • small onion.
    • a few bacon rashers.
    • shredded cheese - mozarella, cheddar, or any easy-melting variety.
    • heavy cream - you can use creme fraiche, milk or a plant-based creamer in lieu of heavy cream.
    • two pinches of salt and some black pepper
    • a small bunch of fresh chives - to garnish. This is however optional and you can garnish your omelette using any fresh herbs or sliced vegetables.

how to make an omelette using the air fryer

As with most of my recipes, I used my Ninja Foodi air fryer to make this omelette but you can use other models. Here is how to go about it:-

A picture showing bacon frying inside the Ninja foodi air fryer.
    Fry Bacon
An overhead picture of diced onion frying in a pot.
    Saute Onion
    1. Dice the onion and chives and set aside. In a small bowl and using a fork, beat the eggs and salt. Lay the bacon strips inside the pot of your Ninja Foodi, set it to saute for 5 minutes, and fry the bacon on each side until properly browned. Use a pair of kitchen tongs to flip from time to time. You can also fry your bacon on the stovetop, using a skillet.
    1. Using the same pot fry the onion until translucent. Feel free to add a teaspoon of oil, if the pot or skillet feels too dry. Set aside.

    Whisk

    Grease
    1. Next, add the diced onion, chives (set aside two tablespoons to garnish), and heavy cream to the bowl with the beaten egg. Whisk using a fork to combine.
    1. Grease an air frying 8-inch (20cm) pan or cake tin with butter or oil and set the temperature to 325 F (162°C).

    Air Fry
    1. Pour the egg mixture into the air frying pan or cake tin, top with any remaining butter, and then use an aluminum sling to carefully lower this into the fryer (as shown in the picture above). You only need the sling if you do not own an air frying pan).
    1. Cook four eggs for 12-15 minutes, or 8-10 minutes for two to three eggs. Open halfway through cooking, place the bacon pieces on top, and sprinkle with black pepper and shredded cheese. Cook until the time is up or until the omelette has a golden color and is totally set. Once cooked, use a spatula to slide the omelette out of the pan onto a plate. Serve immediately.

can I air fry an omelette without an air frying pan?

Yes, you can. Some brands of the Ninja Foodi Air fryer such as the Ninja 8 quart multicooker come with a non-stick pot. This means you can directly make your omelette without having to use an air frying pan. You can, however, still make an omelette without an air frying pan by simply using an oven-safe cake tin (6-inch, 8-inch or any size that will fit into your air fryer).

more ideas for filling your omelette

When it comes to filling your omelette, there is no right or wrong way. So feel free to use your imagination! Some of my favorite combinations include:

    • Spinach and feta cheese.
    • Asparagus.
    • Avocado and cheddar cheese.
    • Shrimps or crabs.
    • Goat cheese and herbs.
    • Using any leftover vegetable dishes such as ratatouille.
    • Tomato and mozzarella.
    • Or make it sweet by using sugar instead of salt, and then serve with some sweetened ricotta cheese and grated lemon rind!

    useful tips

    • black pepper tends to sink to the bottom and not properly mix in with the eggs resulting in a not so pleasant looking omelette. It is, therefore, better to sprinkle it towards the end of cooking or when serving.
    • do not overstuff your omelette, the filling should just be enough for you to still taste the eggs.
    • do not set your air fryer to cook at too high a temperature, as this will make your omelette rubbery.
    • adding cream leads to additional moisture, which in turn makes the eggs fluffier. You can use a dairy-free plant-based creamer, if on a dairy-free diet.

    other FAQs

What is the best type of cheese to use?

For flavor, almost any type of cheese will work; feta, goat cheese, parmesan, gruyere, and so forth. When it comes to topping the omelette with cheese, you want to select varieties that melt easily, such as mozzarella, cheddar and alpine cheeses.

    Can you freeze an omelette?

Wondering whether you can freeze your omelette? The answer is yes, omelettes can be frozen for up to 3 months as follows:-
    1. Once you have cooked your omelette, allow it to cool completely, before placing it in the freezer.
    2. Wrap in saran wrap (cling film)- once the omelette has cooled to room temperature, wrap it in at least two layers of saran wrap (cling film). This protects the omelette from frost damage and keeps it well preserved in the freezer.
    3. Label and store in the freezer - once you are sure that the omelette is properly wrapped, place it inside a Ziploc or any freezer-friendly bag. Push out as much air as you can out of the bag, seal and label it with best-by dates and store in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Read about the FDA's guidelines on egg safety here.

    Can you reheat an omelette?

You can reheat an omelette using the following methods:-
Microwave - this is by far the most popular method as it is very quick and easy. Wrap the omelette in a paper towel, place it in a microwave-safe container, and warm for 1-2 minutes (slightly more, in 30-second increments, if your omelette is frozen). Flip halfway through heating.
Oven - line a baking tray with parchment paper and heat your oven to 350°F (approximately 180°C). Bake the omelette for 10 minutes or until the inside is warm enough and no longer cold.
Stovetop - add butter or cooking oil to a pan or skillet and allow this to heat under medium heat. Warm for 2 minutes on each side.
Air fry - similar to the oven, set the air fryer to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (about 180°C). Grease the basket using a non-aerosol cooking spray or use a parchment paper then heat for 5-10 minutes, or until warmed through. Check on it halfway through heating.

        Hi Sue,

you are going to be using the air frying function, not bake. You can use a baking tin to make the omelette, or any suitable container that fits into your air fryer.
