why you will love this recipe

  • you only need four ingredients!
  • air fryer bananas are great to serve as dessert, especially when pressed for time. They also make for a delicious and filling breakfast or snack!
  • this recipe is way healthier than the regular fried banana desserts as you do not need to use any oil. This also means no oil splattering about or messy kitchen afterwards!
  • it is gluten-free and paleo-friendly making it wonderful for those on these special diets.

ingredients

Made using just four ingredients, I know you will love these air fryer bananas! You are going to need the following ingredients to make them:-

ingredients
  • bananas - use ripe but firm ones. They should also still be yellow in color.
  • honey - the bananas are already sweet enough, so this is mostly to help caramelize them. Brown sugar or coconut sugar also work well.
  • lemon juice (optional) - while this is an optional ingredient, it adds a nice flavor dimension to the bananas so I highly recommend using it.
  • cinnamon - you can use pumpkin pie spice, nutmeg, or a combination of nutmeg and cinnamon.

how to make air fryer bananas

Making bananas in the air fryer is the easiest thing you can do. Here is how to go about it:-

A photo collage showing how to make air fryer bananas
  • Peel and cut the bananas into halves. In a plate or bowl, combine honey, cinnamon, and the juice of a quarter of a lemon. Mix this with the bananas, gently tossing to combine. Feel free to use a pastry brush to spread the mixture, if you prefer.
  • Place a piece of parchment paper or aluminum foil on the base of the air fryer basket or pot, making sure to poke a few holes on the tin foil or paper, so the air can freely circulate. Using aluminum foil is optional, it only makes it easier to clean up the fryer afterward. You can skip this and use the air fryer directly. Lay the sliced banana pieces in a single layer on top of the aluminum foil, parchment paper, or directly in the basket, set the time to 375°F, and time for 5 minutes. Sprinkle some cinnamon on top, close the air fryer basket or lid, then air fry.
  • Once the cooking time is over, flip the bananas and air fry for a further 3 minutes, or until perfectly caramelized. Serve these air fryer bananas warm with a scoop of ice, chopped ice, or your favorite toppings!

serving suggestions and storage

  • serve your air fried bananas with yogurt, chia seeds, peanut butter, or crushed nuts for a protein-packed breakfast.
  • you can also enjoy them with some ice cream and chopped nuts, or some homemade lemon pie filling for dessert.
  • store leftover air fried bananas in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days.

useful tips

  • there is no need to pre-heat your air fryer.
  • feel free to use your favorite banana seasonings, such as nutmeg and pumpkin pie spice.
  • you can use this recipe for any type of ripe yellow and slightly firm bananas. Do not use over-ripe bananas; they should be ripe, but still yellow in color.
  • there is no right way to cut your bananas, so feel free to use your creativity.
  • if you choose to place aluminum foil at the bottom of your air fryer for easy cleanup, make sure to poke holes in it so it doesn't affect the circulation of air. You can also place the bananas directly in the basket (use some oil to grease the basket).
