I love making this air fryer frozen salmon when I’m short on time but still want some flaky, moist, and delicious fish. The best part? You don’t even need to defrost it! Made with honey mustard, this dish is full of flavor and perfect for a quick, and healthy meal.
ingredients
- 2 frozen salmon fillets.
- salt and pepper to taste.
- honey - use maple syrup in place of honey, if you prefer.
- yellow or Dijon mustard.
- olive oil.
- juice of ½ a lemon.
- a handful of chopped fresh parsley (optional - to garnish).
making air fryer frozen salmon
Start by lining your air fryer basket with parchment paper for easier cleaning. Preheat the air fryer to 200°C/400°F for 5 minutes.
While the air fryer is preheating, I like to dip the salmon in a bowl of room-temperature water as I find it helps keep the fish moist. It also helps with the thawing. This step is totally optional.
Make the honey mustard sauce by combining olive oil, mustard, honey, lemon juice, and salt. Pat the salmon fillets dry, then season with salt and pepper.
We then want to apply the honey mustard sauce to the skin side. Proceed on to place the fillets in the air fryer basket, skin-side down.
Cook at 200°C/400°F for 8-9 minutes. After this initial cooking time is over, season the top of the fillets with salt, pepper, and brush with more of the mustard sauce.
Cook for another 7-9 minutes, or until done. Check for doneness with an instant-read thermometer, garnish with chopped fresh parsley and serve with the remaining honey and mustard sauce.
💡Kate's tip
Briefly soak frozen salmon fillets in water while the air fryer is preheating to help remove ice crystals and allow for even seasoning. This step is optional but helps prepare the fillets before air frying.
add some flavor
Feel free to use your favorite spices. Fish seasoning, peri peri spice, Chermoula spice, smoked paprika, and lemon pepper all work great! Read more about the best spices for fish here.
useful tips
- Avoid overcrowding: When batch cooking, ensure salmon fillets are spaced out in the air fryer for even cooking.
- Adjust cooking time: Thicker fillets may need a few extra minutes than thinner fillets, and vice versa. Adjust the cooking time accordingly.
- Check for doneness: Once cooked, use an instant-read thermometer to ensure the fish is done. The internal read thermometer should display at least 145°F (63°C). If not cooked, increase the cooking time by 1-2 minutes until its cooked.
refrigeration
Transfer your leftover salmon to an airtight container and keep in the fridge for 3-4 days.
