ingredients - what you will need:-
These ingredient notes are meant as a guide to assist you in making this recipe a success; they may cover some but not all ingredients. For a complete ingredient list, check out the recipe card below.
- Mushrooms - I used baby bella mushrooms, but white portobello mushrooms or white button mushrooms work great!
- some olive oil or neutral cooking oil.
- one yellow onion.
- seasonings - I use salt, pepper, ground garlic and onion powder, and some ground sweet paprika.
- melted butter.
prepping the mushrooms for cooking
Before we air fry the mushrooms, make sure they are clean to avoid eating dirt.
You want to clean them using a damp cloth; certainly not under running water as this will result in soggy mushrooms.
Once clean, slice your mushrooms in equal sizes, so they cook evenly.
how to make it
- Toss mushrooms and onions in a large bowl with olive oil, salt, pepper, paprika, ground garlic, and onion powder.
- Transfer to the air fryer basket and air fry at 375°F (or 190°C) for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
- Top with melted butter once cooked.
- Serve immediately and store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
serve your air fryer mushrooms and onions with:-
I love it that there are so many ways of using up your mushrooms and onions:-
- We love to top our pizza with it.
- Grilled pork chops or steak.
- Use them as a filling for your tacos and other wraps.
- Add them to burgers and sandwiches.
- Serve them as a main dish with some bread or baguette.
Wine pairing: Mushrooms and onions can be paired with just about any robust red wine such Syrah/Shiraz or Zinfandel. See more on matching food and wine.
a tip or two
- My recipe gives mushrooms that are more crispy on the edges, cut your mushrooms into halves or quarters if you prefer them less crispy. You can also reduce the cooking time by a few minutes.
- For some heat, try adding some red pepper flakes.
- I used my Ninja foodi air fryer. Where necessary, adjust the cooking time to suit the specific brand of air fryer that you own.
loving your leftovers
If you are not planning to eat your mushrooms and onions all at a go or right away, keep them or any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.
