Make this air fryer honey and balsamic brussel sprouts recipe for an easy and quick side dish. Made with just a handful of ingredients, you will love having these sprouts on your dinner table.
I have to admit something. I have never really been a fan of sprouts. While I occassionally made them shaved or shredded(at least that way they tasted like cabbage), they just werent a side I looked forward to eating.
This recipe changed it all. The acidity from the balsamic vinegar and the sweetness from the honey balance everfything so well. Plus, we all love a quick and easy side dish, so this Brussel sprouts is just right.
ingredient notes
You will require the following ingredients:-
- Brussel sprouts - Trim the stems and cut the sprouts in half. This ensures even cooking and allows the insides to crisp up nicely.
- Cooking oil - use a neutral cooking oil such as vegetable oil, peanut or avocado oil.
- Salt and pepper - to taste.
- Balsamic vinegar.
- Honey - you can use maple syrup instead of honey.

soaking brussel sprouts before air frying
Some people like to soak their sprouts for 15-30 minutes before roasting or air frying. I personally, like to cook them without soaking.
Soaking Brussels sprouts before roasting is not necessary, but it can be beneficial for example, when the sprouts are dry, as it can help plump them up.
It also results in more tender sprouts. If you choose to soak, make sure to pat them dry as the excess moisture may result in them steaming, instead of roasting. I like mine more on the crispy side, so I tend to skip the soaking.
tips from the cook
- Rinse and dry: After rinsing, pat the sprouts completely dry. Excess moisture prevents them from getting crispy.
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheating the air fryer ensures the sprouts start cooking immediately and become evenly crispy.
- Don’t Overcrowd: Resist the urge to overcrowd your air fryer. Instead, spread the Brussels sprouts in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Overcrowding can lead to uneven cooking and steaming instead of crisping.
- Shake the Basket: Shake the basket halfway through cooking to ensure the sprouts crisp and brown evenly.
- Adjust Time for Size: Smaller sprouts will cook faster, while larger ones may need a few extra minutes. Keep an eye on them to avoid burning.
refrigeration and freezing
- Refrigeration: Allow Brussels sprouts to cool completely then transfer them to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. To warm, reheat in the air fryer at 180°C (350°F) for 3-5 minutes to restore crispiness.
- Freezing:- You can freeze the sprouts in a freezer-safe container for upto 3 months. Just bear in mind that they may got soggy upon thawing. Allow them to thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.
flavor variations
- Add toppings: After cooking, toss the sprouts with freshly grated Parmesan, or a drizzle of fresh lemon juice. For extra flavor, add garlic powder, onion powder or some smoked paprika.
- Add some herbs: We sometimes like to change things up a bit by using herbs. Thyme, rosemary, sage, parsley and oregano are few examples of spices that go well with brussel sprouts, which you can use.
