    Reasons to Love This Recipe

    • Easy and quick - this is a simple and quick recipe that can be made by just about anyone. You do not need to thaw which means you can get dinner on the table in a fraction of the time it would normally take you to.
    • Family-friendly - this is a meal that is loved by everyone! Kids in particular, love it!
    • Made with the right kind of patty, you can still have it fit your specific diet requirements. For example, use compliant sauces and lettuce wraps for a low-carb option or skip using cheese to make it paleo!

    Ingredients and Equipment

    • Ninja Foodi Air Fryer - while I used my Ninja foodi Max Multicooker for this recipe, these frozen burgers can certainly be cooked using other brands.
    • Frozen hamburger patties - keep an eye on the ingredients list for keto, or if on a special diet.
    • Burger seasoning - Frozen burgers can be very bland on their own so I always like to use my favorite burger seasoning. If you do not have this at hand, just use some salt and pepper and you will be good to go!
    • Toppings and sauces (optional, as preferred) - when it comes to toppings, the classic ones are tomatoes and cheese. There are so many other toppings that you can use. Actually, there is no right or wrong way of stacking your burger so definitely feel free to top them the way you like.

How to Make Frozen Hamburgers in the Air Fryer

    • Place the frozen burger patties in a single layer without stacking, in the basket and season with some burger seasoning (I was able to fit one large patty on my Ninja foodi max multicooker, but the number you can fit will depend on the size of the air fryer you are using.
    • Air fry the frozen hamburgers at 350°F/ 176°C for 7 minutes, flip and season with your favorite seasonings. Flipping helps them cook evenly so do not skip this step. Cook for a further 7 minutes until done.
    • Once cooked, remove the cooked hamburgers using a spatula and place them on buns. Top with cheese (if you prefer), your favorite sauces and toppings, and enjoy!

    Time and Temperature

As a general rule when making hamburgers, it is more important to pay attention to the internal temperature than the total time. According to the FDA, all ground beef should be cooked to at least 160°F. Take care not to cook them for too long or they may end up too dry. At 120°F, the burger is rare. At 130°F, it's medium-rare. 140°F is medium, 150°F is medium-well, and well done at 160°F and above.

The time and temperature will totally depend on the size and thickness of the burgers. An average burger patty cooked at 375°F will take an average of 10-15 minutes to cook but feel free to also adjust the cooking time depending on how well cooked you like your burgers as follows:-

As a summary, air fry burgers at 375 °F using the following time schedule:

    • For rare hamburger- air fry for 10-12 minutes.
    • Medium-done burgers - air fry 13-15 minutes.
    • For well-done burgers - air fry for at least 20 minutes.

    Useful Tips from the Kitchen

Here are some tips that you can apply when making frozen hamburgers using the air fryer:-

    • The time it takes to cook the patties will depend on size and thickness of the hamburger patties. Thicker patties take longer to cook than thinner ones. 10-15 minutes is a sweet spot, but just make sure the recommended internal minimum temperature for burgers of at least 160°F is attained.
    • Do not overcrowd, rather, place the patties in a single layer on the basket to enable them to cook evenly.
    • If you prefer to have melted cheese in your burgers, simply place a slice of cheese on each patty halfway through cooking and air fry for the remaining time.
    • Place a piece of aluminum foil or baking paper at the bottom of the air fryer basket to prevent it from smoking.

    Storage and Freezing

    • In the refrigerator - store cooked ground beef patties in foil, plastic wrap or suitable airtight containers in the fridge for 3-4 days.
    • Freezing - freeze the parties wrapped individually in suitable freezer containers for 5-6 months.

    Recipe Related Questions

Can I cook thawed burgers in the air fryer?

Yes, you can. While this recipe uses store-bought frozen hamburger patties, you can still use it to cook thawed patties. In this case, reduce the cooking time by five minutes and make sure to check on their internal temperature, an internal read thermometer inserted in the thickest part should read at least 160°F.

Are frozen hamburgers keto or paleo?

The simple answer is it depends. For this reason, always keep an eye on the ingredients list and make sure it is purely beef or meat with simple seasoning and no added sugars.

Why does my air fryer smoke?

Similar to grilling fatty food using a regular grill, the grease splatters to the heating element causing it to smoke. You can prevent this by laying a piece of aluminum foil at the bottom of the air frying basket. The aluminum foil catches the grease and prevents it from smoking.

Is it ok for the hamburgers to be a little pink in the middle?

It is fine to eat hamburgers that are a little pink in the middle, but only if the recommended temperature of 160°F has been attained.
