Apart from the fact that it is super easy to make, you probably have everything you need to make them or, you can easily get the ingredients from the store around the corner.

what you will need

  • salty popcorn - because candy corn is particularly sweet, we use salty popcorn so it is not overbearingly sweet. You can use freshly popped homemade popcorn, microwave popcorn, or bagged store-bought popcorn.
  • candy melts.
  • candy corn.
  • broken pretzel - I will be using broken pretzel bits for some saltiness.
  • other toppings (optional) - Feel free to use your favorite Halloween toppings -from sprinkles to icing ghosts, candy eyes, and gummy worms.
Ingredients for making this recipe.

  2. Transfer the popcorn to a large plate or lined baking sheet.

using white chocolate

Can you use white chocolate instead of candy melts? Yes, you can! Just make sure to color it with your favorite spooky Halloween colors!

In this case, use oil-based or powdered food coloring rather than water-based ones to avoid seizing the chocolate.

other topping ideas

  • Crushed Halloween oreos for a creepy, dirt-like texture.
  • Mini marshmallows.
  • Colored M&M's.
  • Ghost skulls.

useful tips

  • If making homemade popcorn, remove your popcorn sooner, rather than later when in doubt to prevent burning.
  • Sprinkle your decorations like sprinkles immediately after drizzling the candy melt to ensure they stick well.

storage

Keep your cooked, cooled popcorn in an airtight container for up to one week.
