Paleo Taco Seasoning - Keto friendly

    Dated: February 26, 2021 . Modified: Feb 27, 2021 by Kate Hahnel

Making your own Keto and Paleo Taco Seasoning has never been easier! All you need is just 5 minutes to make this homemade spice mix! The best part is that you know exactly what ingredients are in your seasoning, certainly no fillers, no added sugars, and it's whole30 compliant.

Learn how to make this homemade paleo recipe. This healthy recipe can be adjusted to use less salt or adapted to a taco seasoning with no salt.

There has been a trend going on on social media with tortillas. And this really got me craving Mexican food! Thomas is currently on a clean-eating diet and so I have been trying my best to make sure we are using healthy, clean ingredients for our meals. If you know me, you do know that I love my spices! I purposely use my healthy home taco seasoning and pilau masala spice in just about everything (even sprinkled it on bread a couple of times)!! Don't judge me.

    Ingredients

Taco seasoning basically comprises of salt, pepper and a few Mexican spices. This recipe can be easily adapted, which means you can, for example, use less or no salt at all to make your taco seasoning with no salt, so it gets even healthier.

    Paleo Taco Seasoning Ingredients:

    • chilli powder
    • salt
    • black pepper
    • regular or smoked paprika
    • cumin
    • onion powder
    • dried oregano
    • garlic powder

How to make Paleo Taco Seasoning

This homemade paleo and keto taco spice mix can be used to season chicken, ground beef, turkey, pork, vegetables and more! I also love to sprinkle some on top of my fries, as weird as it sounds!

Okay, so making your own healthy sugar-free taco seasoning is pretty easy. Simply add all the ingredients into a glass jar that has a lid. Or put it on a plate and give it all a good mix or shake, until all the spices are well combined, and you are good to go. Or simply whisk the ingredients in a bowl. Easy, isn't it?

How much Taco Seasoning per Pound of Meat?

I just never imagined that taco seasoning could have carbs! I assumed it was okay, seeing that it is just a spice! So glad I now know better. This paleo and whole 30 approved taco seasoning is low carb (1 g net carbs per serving), and free from starches, maltodextrin and loads of other preservatives commonly used in store-bought taco seasonings, thereby making it way healthier than the packs you would buy at the stores.

Normally, one tablespoon of this whole 30 approved taco seasoning should be enough for a pound (500 grams) of meat, unless you like it extra spicy, in which case I would say use 1-2 tablespoons more. Use about two tablespoons for recipes that require a pack of taco seasoning.

I always like to start by browning my meat. Next, I add the paleo taco seasoning and finish it off with half a cup of water for each pound of meat. I then allow the liquid to evaporate and add some more spice if I prefer it spicier.

    Storing this home seasoning mix

You want to keep this paleo taco seasoning in an airtight jar and store it in a clean dry cupboard. I would say as long as you keep this seasoning mix away from heat or moisture, then you do not necessarily have to store it in the fridge.

Great news, you have made it this far which means you probably made or are making this recipe! It would go a long way if you could leave a ⭐rating on the recipe card or comment in the comments section below.

I am so happy I found this recipe! I loath the taco seasoning packets. I've already used this seasoning recipe three times (for fajitas and tacos), and each time the flavors were perfect!
